Obituary for David LaVerne VanKleek

David LaVerne VanKleek, 72, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his home in Higden, Arkansas surrounded by his family. David was born in Springfield, Missouri on July 30, 1949, to the late Robert Lee and Clella Wise VanKleek.

His parents raised him and his siblings in a small church in Missouri. He had mastered the skill of playing the guitar, trumpet, and singing praises unto the Lord. Gospel music was one of his passions and David loved to sing and play with his family. He even spent a small amount of time with a gospel group. David later in life would pastor a small church in Missouri where he carried on his talent for music.

David graduated from Ozark High School in 1967. Upon graduation, he served as a Seargent in the United States Air Force for four years. David married the love of his life Karen Blevins, who became Karen VanKleek on July 29, 1969. After his time in the military, he became a licensed master electrician and spent many years working in this field. He was a long-time resident of Nixa, Missouri where he enjoyed many wonderful and memorable years of his life. David had a huge heart and was loved by all who met him, he had never met a stranger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clella VanKleek, sister, Rosella Mitchell, and two brothers: James VanKleek, and Steven VanKleek.

Left to cherish the precious memory of David is his wife of fifty-two years, Karen VanKleek of Higden, Arkansas, brother, Delvan Vankleek of Larned Kansas, sisters; Rayma Jo Gatler of Higden, Arkansas, Mary Clevenger of Marshfield, Missouri, Rachel Press of Clever, Missouri, son, Matthew VanKleek and wife Joanna of Springfield, Missouri, grandchildren, Hailey, Riley, Audrey of Springfield, Missouri, one great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service has been planned for 2:00pm, Saturday, April 23, 2022, in Clever, Missouri at Mount Sanai Baptist Church, 1396 State Hwy N. Clever, Missouri. A memorial service will be held in Arkansas at a later date for his friends and family in Arkansas followed up by honors and burial at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
