Obituary for Glenn Shunneson

Glenn Allen Shunneson, 93, passed from this earthly life early on the morning of Saturday, February 19, 2022. Glenn was born to parents Ella Louise and Gustav Adolph Shunneson on December 18, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up close to Wrigley Field. He graduated from North Park Academy and the University of Illinois with a degree in Civil Engineering.

On April 8, 1950, he married the love of his life, Doris Eileen “Dorie” Wallace. In addition to Dorie, he is survived by his four children; Linda (Don) Adams, Glenn Allen (Chris) Shunneson, Jr., Eileen (Sherman) Kang, and Elsa Shunneson-Lewis. He was always very proud of his four kids, his twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Lundgren.

Glenn spent his 50 working years in the industrial construction business, starting as a water boy at age 12. After graduating from college, he worked primarily in the Chicago area earning his certification as a “Registered Professional Engineer.” Later in his career, he worked as a Senior Construction Manager in Indiana, Florida, New York, and Connecticut. After retiring in 1991, he and Dorie moved to Fairfield Bay.

While in college, Glenn was an active member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a life member in the Loyal Order of Moose, was active in the Fairfield Bay Lions Club, where several years later he received the prestigious “Melvin Jones Fellow” award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services by the Lions Club International Foundation. He was very active in Fairfield Bay’s Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills and the Kirk Men’s Club.

A Celebration of Life is planned for April 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Kirk of the Hills. Anyone wishing to send a memorial may send it to the Memorial Fund at the Kirk of the Hills, 250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay, AR 72088.
