Obituary for Raymond Eugene Owens

Raymond Eugene Owens, 74, passed away at his home surrounded by his family Thursday, December 22, 2022. Raymond was born in Kansas City, Kansas on June 30, 1948, to the late Frank Owens, Sr., and Corrine Cox Owens.

Raymond and his wife Shirley have been married for 55 years. They found each other and were wed on August 26, 1967. Where you found one of them, the other was always close by. Three years later they started their family when their first daughter was born. They would go on to have two more beautiful girls. Raymond was a wonderful, protective father, with a kind and tender heart.

He was a member of the church of the Nazarene where he was known as the 'Candy Man' to all the children. They always knew where to find the butterscotch before service started. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam war serving his country proudly. After coming home, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years, a career he loved. He was a member of the Local 101 of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was an outdoorsman, in love with the wild. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite things. He spent a lot of time training and riding horses. Raymond also grew some of the most beautiful flowers. He loved gardening. If you were after a good, juicy tomato, he was the one who had the very best. Raymond never met strangers; he saw good in everyone. He will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife, Shirley, three daughters; Sherry Bright (Kenny) Clinton Arkansas, Laurie Owens, Topeka Kansas, Michelle Owens(Sydnie-granddaughter), Drummright Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, three great-grandsons, sister, Wilma Beal, Kansas, brother Russell Owens, many other relatives, and friends.

There will be a private family burial at a later date.

Clinton Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
