Obituary for Samuel Norman Black

Samuel Norman  Black
Samuel Norman Black, 91, of Scotland, Arkansas passed away on July 19, 2018, at home. He was born December 31, 1926, in Mansfield, Arkansas. Samuel was the son of the late Elmer T. and Bessie Black. Sam was an employee of John Deere for 37 years prior to his retirement and attended the Walnut Grove Community Church. He loved dirt farming and growing vegetables, most of which he gifted to those he knew. Sam loved to tell stories of his younger years growing up in Arkansas and rarely forgot the name of anyone he met. He proudly served in the Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Garry (wife Barbara) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Larry (wife Karen) of Morrilton, Arkansas; one brother Francis (Bud) Black of Hampton, Illinois; one sister, Betty Randall of Rock Island, Illinois. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura “Geneva” (Lowrance) Black; brothers Truman, Bill, Walter, Freeman, Roland, James, Jessie; one sister, Elizabeth (Lucy); two sons, Tommy and Donald; one granddaughter, Jennifer Jill (JJ).
Serving as pallbearers are Adam Black, Aaron Black, Sam Black, Scott Black, Matt Damewood, Darrell Black.
Services will be held Monday, July 23, 2018, 10am, at the Lighthouse Church in Scotland, Arkansas with Pastors Larry Black and Darrell Black officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.
Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Scotland.
